In our submission to the Australian Gas Networks (AGN) Draft Reference Service Proposal for South Australia’s gas distribution network (2026–2031), SACOSS highlights the need to shift away from declining block tariffs, which encourage higher gas use and conflict with climate targets. We recommend moving towards inclining block tariffs or fairer alternatives that promote conservation while ensuring vulnerable households are supported. SACOSS also supports maintaining price-cap revenue controls to protect consumers from unaffordable energy costs. Our focus is on building a fairer, more sustainable energy future for all South Australians.
