People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds continue to face significant barriers to good health—ranging from language access and systemic racism to housing insecurity and limited culturally appropriate care. In this May 2025 policy brief, SACOSS outlines the social, cultural, and structural drivers of health inequities experienced by CALD populations, especially refugees and humanitarian entrants. The brief calls for targeted investments in community mental health, culturally safe healthcare, health literacy initiatives, and housing support. It also urges governments to embed social justice and lived experience in service design, expand the community sector’s capacity to deliver inclusive health programs, and implement reforms to eliminate institutional barriers across the health system
