A high level sector briefing about what’s happening in aged care
Our aged care sector is undergoing really significant reformat the moment aimed at enhancing the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of services for older Australians.
- There’s a new Rights Based Framework and accountability mechanisms embedded in a new Aged Care Act (2024), hopefully driving services for our elders that prioritise their own needs and choice.
- There’s some increased funding and a new Support at Home Program starting in July 2025 that hopes to better coordinate in-home care so people are able to continue living in their own homes.
- There’s also new pricing arrangements for entry into residential aged care, obligations to have registered Nurses on duty and fee structure changes for both residential and in-home care services.
What might this all mean for the way we support people who are getting older and for our services? While your services might not be providing direct services for older people many are likely to be certainly interacting with them. How might some of these changes flow through?
This is your chance to get a high level briefing from two people extremely well placed to share their insights – Danny McAteer (Director of Adelaide Office for Dept. Health and Aged Care Local Network) and Derek Dittrich (Ageing Australia’s Director of Strategy & Representation in Adelaide)
