As the peak body for the non-government health and community services sector, our roles include:
- Representing and giving voice to the interests of people who experience poverty, inequality and injustice, and the social services sector which supports them.
- Researching, developing policy and advocating on issues affecting disadvantaged South Australians and the sector that serves them.
- Disseminating important information from the government to the community sector and from our sector back to government and the broader community.
- Building the capacity of the health and community services sector and people faced with disadvantage to better respond to their circumstances.

INTERNSHIPS

Policy Officer – Energy, Water & Climate Change
Fixed term for 12 months

Job description
Are you passionate about social justice? Want to be part of a team committed to making a difference in people’s lives? An opportunity has become available to join the SACOSS team to help us shape policy and advocacy. We are looking for someone with skills and experience in the key policy areas of energy, water and climate change.
The South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) works to eliminate poverty, inequality and injustice in SA. We are the peak body for the non-government social, health and community services sector and our members are not-for-profits who are dedicated to helping the South Australian community.
A key opportunity has arisen for a policy officer to join the team. Reporting to the Director of Policy & Advocacy, this role requires you to work closely with the policy team for policy analysis, advocacy and campaigning. Our work aims to ensure consumer protections and affordability for energy and water consumers and this will be a specific focus of this role.
To be considered for this role you will possess tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, and will have a broad understanding of theories and practices underpinning public policy, social disadvantage and advocacy. You’ll probably have a background in social policy, be keen on advocacy, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have a real passion for social change.
The position is offered initially as a contract for one year with the opportunity to renew the contract subject to funding. We will consider applicants seeking a 0.8FTE through to 1.0FTE (fulltime) role.
