In this submission to the Australian Energy Regulator, SACOSS responds to the Default Market Offer (DMO) Prices 2026–27 Issues Paper, highlighting the need for electricity prices that are fair, efficient and in the long-term interests of consumers. The submission raises concerns about the equity impacts of tariff structures, rising network and wholesale costs, retail margins, and the recovery of non-energy costs through usage charges. SACOSS urges the AER to strengthen consumer protections, improve transparency, and ensure households—particularly those on low incomes, renters and people unable to access solar and batteries—pay no more than necessary for an essential service.
